Dear MTVA Members and Prospects,

Welcome to another school year!  I know it will be filled with wonderful experiences for your students.  It is my hope that MTVA can assist you with that obligation.  As always, I am grateful for the opportunity to serve another year as your president.  If there is ever anything that I can do for you, please do not hesitate to ask!

In looking at MTVA, I am excited at what our organization has to offer its members and their students.  Few other organizations offer the broad range of opportunities that MTVA does.  It is my hope that we may continue to offer the highest quality events possible.  With your feedback, we continue to improve.  Please be both prolific and specific in your comments; the more I hear, the better our events become.  It is my hope that MTVA can continue to progress along the current track of constant improvement while easing some of the directorial burdens.

In an effort to make our organization as cost-efficient as possible, we are going “digital.”  That means any forms, minutes, music files, etc. will be available on the website.  Just access what you need.  That doesn’t mean you can’t have it mailed, but hopefully you can take advantage of this technology.  It’s faster for you, and cheaper for MTVA (read: you!!).

Continue to be proactive in your communication.  Check the website often (www.mtva.org).  Read the handbook. Know what is required of both you and your students.  Attend the meetings.  We will work diligently to make them worth your time.

Get involved.  We need some “new” faces to fill leadership roles.  You will already see some willing folks who are jumping in to help; join them as you are able.  Our organization works best when we all work together.

Finally, remember that everything we do in MTVA should only serve to fulfill our stated purpose:  "To foster and promote the study and performance of the finest choral music...and encourage rehearsal procedures and techniques conducive to obtaining the highest standards possible in musicianship and artistic performance..." (Article II, MTVA Constitution).  This should not only be our goal as an organization, but also the goal of each vocal/choral music educator in our ranks.

Thank you for all you do to make our organization strong.  Let me know how I can help you grow “us” stronger.

Sincerely,

Lewis Walling
