Official Minutes

On Tuesday, February 12, 2002, the MTVA Executive Board met at St. Cecilia Academy in Nashville, TN.   President Jj Ebelhar called the meeting to order.  Robert King moved to refund all fees for Elementary Mass Choir to schools prevented from attending by flooding and school closings.  After a brief discussion, the motion was approved.

Tiffany DePriest relayed a concern regarding the placement of the Elementary Mass event in the calendar, suggesting mid-February as a possibility.  This idea was tabled until the June Board Meeting when the calendar is set.

Robert King similarly offered a concern over the venues available to MTVA.  The new Allen Arena on the David Lipscomb campus was discussed, as well as the Nashville Masonic Lodge.  The board reached a consensus to investigate these venues for future events.

Jerry Pierce noted his new contact information: his new school phone number is (615) 333-5631, and his new FAX number is (615) 336-5631.

Valerie DeHoff informed the board that all Elementary Honors information had been e-mailed to those involved.

A brief discussion regarding the All State Task Force was held and ideas were discussed for next year.  It was agreed this discussion would be more profitable after the election of officers has occurred.

The board addressed a request appealing the results of the second All-State audition.  A motion was made (White/Young) to uphold the judges’ decision and passed unanimously.

Lewis Walling moved to give a gratuity of $200 to our technical support person for the gracious work he has given to MTVA.  It was seconded by Jerry Pierce, and passed, with Robert King abstaining.

Robert King reminded the board to emphasize the current membership survey underway.  Copies can be obtained from the web site, or can be completed and e-mailed there.

A concern was discussed regarding the absence of directors at MTVA events.  This issue was tabled for further discussion at a later meeting.  The board’s meeting was adjourned.

All-State alternates have been notified.  All fees and forms are due to David Spencer immediately.

Robert King reminded the membership to pick up the available surveys or download a copy from our web site.  This is the most effective way to hear from the membership regarding any concerns or ideas.  Please help in this effort!

The deadline for Choral Festival is fast approaching (March 5).  Be sure to get forms and fees in on time.  Forms are available on the web site.  The choral festival is for ANY choral ensemble in grades 4-12.
